The mission of Accountable Futures is that children in our communities who are taken into state custody can have a safe space to process their experiences with qualified professionals. A space where values matter and personal mental health care is seen as a necessary and ongoing life skill.
The vision for the Accountable Futures system is that it will contribute to a significant change in the life trajectory of children who enter into CYFD custody, even if only for a day, by providing immediate access to qualified mental health professionals, teaching social emotional learning (SEL) skills, and identifying Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) early in order to begin addressing them sooner.
This system will contribute to reducing the stigma that comes with taking accountability over one’s own mental and behavioral health needs and will help to reframe the idea of personal mental health care as a life skill.
This system will be duplicatable so that it may be implemented across county, and eventually state, borders and can provide centers with a model that will be consistent and predictable.
We will continue developing strong partnerships with our community members and local mental health professionals. We are committed to building deep collaborations with the Children, Youth, and Families Department (CYFD) and the New Mexico Health Care Authority (HCA)
